Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.

Breakfast Tech for Good: Powering Renewable Energy

How could the Celtic Interconnector, a sub electricity cable connecting France and Ireland, help both countries transition to a low carbon energy future? And what green innovations developed by Irish, French and European startups could support this transition?

The French Tech Dublin recently partnered with Eirgrid and the France Ireland Chamber of Commerce to hold a breakfast seminar “Tech for Good” on the theme of renewable energy.

The event took place in Eirgrid on the 11th of June 2019, just a few days after the Irish energy supplier and its French counterpart, RTE, signed the European Union funding application for the Celtic Interconnector project

Project manager Doctor Gary Nolan explained to the audience how the Celtic Interconnector would make it easier for Ireland to manage variable renewable power sources like solar and wind. Dr Nolan also highlighted the benefits of ‘smarter’, more flexible grids, which improve the movement of electricity around the system to the places that need it.

The second speaker on stage, Stephane Groud, chief product officer of Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS), introduced the audience to vertical farming and innovative power management systems applied to agriculture. “Power optimisation will be a huge factor in making vertical farming economically efficient”, said the French engineer.

Our third speaker, Franck Mutel, Business Development Manager of Greenoffice, presented the company’s solutions for sorting waste in the offices and inspire people to recycle more. One of the keys to adoption is simplicity, he insisted, mentioning the 3R’: “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.

The French Tech Dublin is supporting Tech for Good initiatives. We have launched a “Tech for good” startup challenge, with participants being in for a chance to win a 1-week acceleration program in Paris.

FrenchTech Dublin Meet up #2: We were 70

We hosted last Thursday at the Liquor Rooms the second meetup of the French Tech community with more than 70 people attending and two very stimulating fireside-chats.

Clyde Hutchinson (Angel investor @ Propeller Shannon) and Tom Shinkwin (Investor @ Enterprise Equity Venture Capital) first gave us valuable pieces of advice on how to develop your start-up and attract investors at various stages of your project. All the entrepreneurs present yesterday were listening really closely, and a vibrant discussion took place.

By and large, it was an amazing meetup with all of you. Thank you for coming, and stay tuned for our next meet-up on the Bastille Day at the French Embassy.

French Tech Meetup #1: a great start!
